African colours

The Ultimate Cry

Appeal to the conscience of the African symbol. It is a summation of suffering and hope.

DSCN0045.JPG

"Africa, as a whole, represented by this mother dressed in flags, appealing for peace, symbolised by the presence of the doves. The hungry children, in the shadow of hope, is a kind of awaking for the role of the african union, without, however, ignoring the blue, red, green, yelow and other helmets, represented, here, by the totems, like in the past, with our acnestors, for the protection of our lands. The presence of wood and earth symbolise the casting aside of any western interpretion. An authentic and united Africa is our leitmotiv."

Namibian tree of unity

A triptyche artwork dedicated to the unity, liberty and justice as enshrined on the coat of arms of Namibia.

DSCN0026.JPG

"The design of the artwork is centred around the tree of unity depicted by the oneness of a hand whose roots change into hands gripping onto one another to depict their interdependence. The eyes on the roots reflect the expectation of the late heroes who sacrificed their livers for the independence of their motherland.

On top of the soil, fumes emerge from clay pots which pass through the fruit to the sky, symbolizing the influence that the soil of the independent motherland has on all those who have the privilege to walk, live and benefit from it today. The trunk of the tree further strengthens the thought of oneness that changes into a hand holding the blue sky of Namibia. The weaving texture in the background suggests the social fabric of the Namibian nation as a symbol of integration and unity that exiosts among the different language speaking groups of the country.

The left side panel of the artwork reminds one of the armed struggle for independence and complements the right hand panel that symbolizes the benefits of education, science and technology that we enjoy as a nation. The colours of the bangle around the wrist of the hand reflects the national flag of Namibia. The three white doves symbolize the peace and stability that we have as a priviledged united namibian nation.

In short, this artwork symbolizes that the tree can only continue to give us nutritious fruit if our roots of unity hold onto one another, and liberty to look each other in the eye, with justice that assures us of human dignity, through the fertile ground that holds our roots together as one nation."
